Betty " June" Brown Wheat,90, of Lanett, Alabama passed away on June 25, 2021, at Bethany House in Auburn, Alabama. June was born in Birmingham, Alabama on April 27, 1931, to the late Henry Thomas and Pearl Ray.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years James Wheat of Lanett; daughters Brenda Bailey (Jeff) of Panama City, Florida, Suzie Britt (Donnie) of Valley Alabama, Cheryl Farr (Wendel) of Cusseta, Alabama, and Roxanne Henderson (Todd) of Arab, Alabama; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; and her beloved pets Misty and Smut.

June was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter Dorothy June Workman and grandson Adam Ian Spires.

A graduate of the University of Georgia in Art Education and design, Betty taught in the Atlanta City school system and finished her teaching career at Southern Union State Community College. She was an avid animal activist and helped in any way she could in protecting and aiding animals and pets.

The family will greet friends for Visitation on Monday, June 28, 2021, from 4:00-6:00 pm EDT at Bluffton Funeral Services in Lanett, Alabama. Funeral services will be held at the Chapel of Bluffton Funeral Services on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at 11:00 am EDT followed by graveside services at Hillcrest Cemetery in Lanett, Alabama.

Dr. Todd Henderson and Reverend Brad Reed will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, it was June's wish that donations be made to help those who cannot afford spaying and neutering of pets. These should be made to the following Clinics.
