Mr. Charles Edward "Lefty" Fetner, 90 of Lanett, AL passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Bill Nichols VA Home in Alexander City, AL. The family will greet friends at Bluffton Funeral Services in Lanett, Friday, September 15, 2017 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 16, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Nathan Lawrence officiating.
Mr. Fetner is survived by his wife of 66 years, Martha Leverette Fetner, two daughters, Jan Fetner Gagnon (David) and Kerri Fetner Allen (Kiley) of Lanett. Grandsons, Chris Gagnon (Calli), of Valley, AL Justin Gagnon (Katie), of Auburn, AL, Nick Gagnon (Amanda), of Durham, North Carolina, and Andrew Allen of Lanett, granddaughter, Abbie Allen Smith (Seth) of Auburn, AL. Great grandchildren, John Lawrence Gagnon, Caty Mae Gagnon, Sawyer James Gagnon and Hannah Scott Smith.
Mr. Fetner was born August 16, 1927 in Lanett AL to the late, George and Ludie Mae Denham Fetner. After graduating from Lanett High School, Mr. Fetner served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war "Lefty" played Semi-Pro Baseball in the South Alabama League for 2 years and then went to Auburn University. After graduation from Auburn, he went to work as Director of Recreation for West Point Manufacturing Co. where he was employed for 30 years. During his time as recreation director, he also served as Chambers County Commissioner for eight years.
Mr. Fetner made a huge impact on many young men, through the years, in the Lanett area. He made this impact through the little league football, baseball, basketball and all other sports that he led. He was also a large part of Lanett High School Football for many years. He and his lifelong friend, Grady Smith, kept stats for the football team for many years.
Mr. and Mrs. Fetner owned and operated Adcock's Flower Shop for 20 years where he worked with his wife and delivered flowers until their retirement.
