Bluffton Funeral Services respectfully announces the passing of Mr. Chesley Rutledge Sr. at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika AL., on April 7th, 2017.
Funeral Service for Mr. Chesley Rutledge Sr. will be Monday April 10, 2017 3:00 pm EST at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Valley.
Friends & family are welcome to meet at 1:00 EST Monday at church fellowship for a meal, prior to the service.
Visitation is Sunday April 9, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Bluffton Funeral Services in Lanett, AL.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Pastors Darren White and Derrick Rutledge will officiate.
Flowers are welcomed.
Mr. Rutledge was born Thursday, November 19, 1942, in West Point, Georgia, the son of the late Lemuel and Thelma Butler Rutledge.
He was a graduate of Lanett High School and was quarterback and running back on the football team, being voted Most Valuable Player. Mr. Rutledge was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps, serving in Viet Nam.
He was an active member of Emanuel Baptist Church in Valley, caring deeply for his church family. Mr. Rutledge worked for 37 ½ years with Uniroyal. He loved his family and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Regina G. Rutledge; his son Ches (Shay) Rutledge, Jr.; three grandchildren, Ashlyn Rutledge, Addi Gillenwaters and Jayden Gillenwaters; three sisters, Sandra (Raymond) Alexander, Celia (Billy) Pollard and Nancy Howard; and his brother Jimmy (Deborah) Rutledge. Mr. Rutledge was predeceased by his sisters, Sylvia Blatt and Margaret Walker.
