Dell M.
Johnston
December 14, 2020
Dell M. Johnston, 89, of West Point, GA passed away December 14, 2020 with her loving and devoted husband of over 60 years, Robert A. Johnston, by her side.
A private funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, December 18, 2020, in the Chapel at Taylor Funeral Home in Louisville, GA and officiated by Rev. Jonathan Melchior.
Dell was born in Tennille, GA and spent her childhood in Wadley, GA. At a young age, Dell enjoyed helping the customers at her parents' business, Morris General Store, by cutting cheese from the big wheel or running the register. When someone ordered a bag of roasted peanuts, Dell hopped into action to scoop the hot peanuts and expertly whip the small paper bag around to close it. She had many great memories of an adventurous childhood climbing in the chinaberry trees, riding her horse Popcorn, and playing basketball.
Dell graduated from the University of Georgia in Athens and obtained her Master's Degree in Marketing from New York University. She taught Distributive Education at Southwest DeKalb High School in the early 1960's and when her youngest daughter was 10 years old, she resumed teaching with business education classes at DeKalb Technical College from 1979-1996. She became a member of The University of Georgia President's Club in 1989.
Dell was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Annie Morris; her sisters, Mary Cicale of Milton, FL and June "Junebug" Miolen of Decatur, GA. She is survived by her husband, Robert Johnston, daughters, Dione Johnston and Valerie Johnston, both of Nashville, TN and her brother, Louie A. Morris of Lanett, AL.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to her nurse, Pat Hutchinson, and the staff of Angel Care for their loving dedication and kindness over the past year.
If so desired, in lieu of flowers, a tribute in her memory may be made to The University of Georgia Foundation. (https://give.uga.edu/how/#immediate).
