First Baptist Church
Starts at 2:00 pm
Jane Keller, 92, of Orlando passed away Friday, March 24, 2017 at Cornerstone Hospice/ORMC.
The daughter of the late Carleton Glen Palmer and Julia Aline Mayo Palmer, Jane was born on July 21, 1924 in Atlanta, GA. She grew up surrounded by loving family and adored her "baby" brother, Carleton Glen (Petey) Palmer. Jane later wrote that, even after moving away, "My heart is headquartered in Atlanta."
After graduating from Atlanta Girls' School, Jane studied at the University of Georgia's Atlanta campus while working during World War II for General Electric. She met the love of her life, Henry (Hank) Keller, Jr at a USO dance and married him a year later on Easter Sunday, 1944 at Camp Howze in Gainesville, TX. Some of the happiest years of her life were spent with him and their two daughters in West Point, GA. She sang in the choir at First Baptist Church of West Point and was active on the Pine Valley Girl Scout Council. After Hank's death in 1974, Jane moved to Orlando FL and had a fulfilling career as a stock broker at Dean Witter in Winter Park. In her 80's, Jane wrote dozens of stories about her Georgia roots. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, eloquently spoken, proudly independent and generous. Dearly loved, she will be greatly missed.
Jane is survived by her daughters and their spouses, Julia Casey Slaybod and Sheldon Slaybod of Toledo OH, Jan Keller Goodman and William D. (Billy) Goodman of Orlando FL; grandchildren: Keller Casey, Dorian Slaybod, Marshall Slaybod, William D. (Will) Goodman, Jr and Kelly Goodman, and John M. Goodman and Stephanie Goodman; great grandchildren Nathaniel (Nate) William Goodman, Gillian Rose Goodman, Jack Mayo Goodman, and Lucy Jo Goodman; nephew Carleton Glen Palmer, III and Anita Palmer, niece Gayle Palmer Kauffman and Alan Kauffman, niece Jane Palmer Brawley and Donald Brawley, and sister-in-law Joan Gossett Palmer. Jane is predeceased by her parents, brother, and husband.
The memorial service is scheduled for Friday, June 16, 2017, 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church in West Point, GA officiated by Dr. Thomas Tucker. The burial will be in the Marseilles Cemetery in West Point.
Arrangements handled by Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home in Orlando and services in West Point GA entrusted to Bluffton Funeral Services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the National MS Society or charity of your choice.
