Mildred Hogg Shaver, born on April 8, 1919, passed away at age 101 on July 7, 2020, at West Georgia Hospice Center in LaGrange, GA. Mrs. Shaver was born in Troup County and graduated from LaGrange College. She taught school in Troup and Harris counties for many years and retired from teaching at West Point High School. She is responsible for the ability of many of her former students to write and speak correct English and to enjoy reading. She was a member of First Baptist Church, West Point, GA.
In addition to her parents and two brothers, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wheeler Shaver. Survivors include her son, J.Wheeler (Jackie) Shaver of New Bloomfield, MO; daughter, Sally Shaver of Cary, NC; daughter, Suellen (Steve) Mason of LaGrange, GA; grandchildren, Wes Shaver, New Bloomfield, MO, Julia Turner, Washington, DC, Bryan Turner, Cary, NC, Stuart Mason, Fort Collins, CO, and Spencer (Kristi) Mason, Greenville, SC; great-grandchildren, Brayden (Michaela) Shaver, LaGrange, GA, Chase Shaver,Columbia, MO, and Cydni Shaver, Belton, MO; brother, Ralph (Mary Nell) Hogg; a niece, Darlene (Norman) Bobo and a nephew, Warren (Sue) Hogg. Mrs. Shaver leaves a legacy of laughter, positivity, appreciation of nature, deep faith, love of family and enjoyment of food and life itself. She was a great teacher and listener, a role model for many. She loved flowers, gardening and visiting with family and friends.Due to the covid-19 pandemic, the family will have a private service followed by burial in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery at Jones Crossroads.
There will not be a formal visitation due to Covid 19, but friends are welcome to come by and pay your respects at Bluffton Funeral Services in Lanett Alabama from 1:00-6:00 pm EDT on Thursday July 9, 2020.
Flowers will be accepted; or In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Providence Baptist Church LiveStream Fund, PO Box 157 New Bloomfield, MO 65063.
