Obituary

Mr. Roger O'Dolphus Hales left us to join our Heavenly Father on January 24, 2021, after an extended battle with multiple health issues.

He was born on May 20, 1934, in Decatur, Alabama to the late Ira O. Hales and Irene Brooks Hales. Mr. Hales graduated from Benjamin Russell High School in Alexander City, Alabama in 1952. He also attended Auburn University where he studied mechanical engineering. He worked his entire career in the automobile industry. His jobs ranged from bookkeeper, to mechanic, to service manager, to salesman to sales manager. His career began in Alexander City. In 1959 he moved his young family to West Point, GA when he began work at Valley Chevrolet, and finished his career in 2015 after serving many happy years with Langley Motor Company.

Mr. Hales was a loving and faithful husband and father. He was a member of West Point First Baptist Church for over 60 years, where he served as a youth Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, deacon, and deacon emeritus. He served on the West Point City School Board alongside his friends and colleagues during the unification of the West Point Public School System. He was also a member of the West Point Jaycees and Toastmasters clubs. He spent his life serving his family and community and was known for his sense of humor, his ability to put others at ease, and his integrity in both his private and professional life.

Mr. Hales leaves his memory to be cherished by his wife, Jane Burdeshaw Hales; his sister, Harriet McAlister (Robert) of Alexander City, AL; his son, Clay Hales (Rebecca) of Johns Creek, GA; his daughter, Luanne H. Baroni (Philip) of Little Rock, AR; his grandchildren Alice Kharazmi (Shervin) and great-grandson, Sam, of Atlanta; Richard Hales (Laney) of Milton, GA; Hannah Aston (Ryan), Cari Baroni, and Elise Baroni all of Little Rock, AR. He also is survived by nieces, nephews, and multiple cousins.
